A King Who Condemns

Jesus is the Lord. Because He is Lord, He makes the rules. In Luke 18-19, Luke strings together several stories that point to Jesus as Lord. In his rebellion, the rich young ruler declared Jesus as Lord because he made money his lord and left sad. Zacchaeus literally called Jesus Lord and let Jesus change his life. In a parable about the kingdom, Jesus points to His lordship. This reality is all the more important when we realize that Palm Sunday is coming soon in Luke’s gospel. The problem is that even as Jesus’s disciples, we forget that He is Lord. We would much rather make our own rules and submit to the god of our bellies or serve the world. We fall for the lies that real life and satisfaction are doing what we want, not submitting to Christ. But the reality is that Jesus is our Lord, our God, our All. He is a well of living water to satisfy our thirst. He is the bread of life to feed our hunger. He is the riches of God’s glory radiant in us. He is the Way, the Truth, the Life. If we let anything or anyone else be lord of our lives and hearts, we will doom ourselves to everlasting dissatisfaction and servitude. We have one Lord; His name is Jesus. To Him be the dominion forever and ever, amen! –Pastor Rory
