We throw around the term good news often. We share a raise, a new baby, or a good weekend as good news. Those are all happy events, but the only good news of significance is the Bible’s good news. This good news is the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how it saves us from sin. When we confuse good circumstances with the good news, we could think to desert the true good news. This is what was happening in Galatia. Paul wondered at his friends’ quick desertion of the good news of God’s grace for other so-called good news. Paul couldn’t believe it because nothing else compares to the true good news, the gospel of Jesus. Everything else calling itself good news is an effort to replace or to distort that true gospel. We definitely need good news in our world. If we offer only feel-good stories, we leave people with nothing more than good feelings. But if we offer true good news, life-changing news, we offer nothing short of life. That life is a life here that is full of hope and a life to come that will never end. So don’t get distracted by other so-called good news. Lean on Christ, share His good news, and find it to define good news. We have no other good news than Christ, but He is all the good news we need. – Pastor Rory
