Sometimes we can feel like we’re people without a home. Peter calls us strangers and pilgrims as saints in this world (1 Pt 2:11). Jesus warns us that those who follow Him must prepare to have no place to lay their heads (Mt 8:20). But we do have a refuge in this world. The psalms call God Himself our refuge throughout their songs. Even when we feel like strangers and pilgrims in this world, we have a place where we can dwell in God Himself. He is a sun and a shield to those who trust in Him. He withholds nothing from those who walk uprightly and find their strength in Him. We might face the temptation to envy the birds who have their nests as a house to protect their eggs. But a day in the presence of God is better than a thousand elsewhere. It provides protection and strength that we can hardly comprehend. This reality should make us long for the presence of God. His presence makes the wilderness a spring. His house excels the tents of wickedness and leaves us satisfied. So we must seek Him and dwell with Him if we will find any rest in this journey we call life. But when we do, the rest He provides is sweet and blessed. He gives us exactly what we need, a home away from home. –Pastor Rory
