God has spoken! We may take God’s speaking for granted, but this truth carries significant importance. God’s speaking reminds us that He is a personal God. Speaking is an attribute of a person. Our speaking God is someone with whom we can have a relationship. In fact, our relationship with Him finds its ground in His self-revelation. This understanding leads us to recognize that God desires a relationship with us. His revelation communicates how we can have a relationship with Him. Without God’s self-revelation, we would have no relationship with Him. We wouldn’t even be able to know Him or what He’s done. God’s speaking also highlights His condescension. God is under no obligation to speak and reveal Himself. But He enters into our human situation to reveal Himself. He did this by speaking through the prophets for several millennia; then He spoke in the person of His Son, Jesus. Jesus embodies God’s speaking, as He shows God’s desire for a relationship with us, His creation. Jesus embodies God’s condescension, humbling Himself to obey the Father and dying in our place. God’s speaking is still true today. Today, He speaks through His Word, and we must hear it. Are you listening? – Pastor Rory
