Light is essential to our lives. With it, we feel safe and secure. When Simeon saw Jesus, he recognized that Jesus shared this essential nature. Jesus illumined God’s salvation to Simeon. He was also the light of revelation to the Gentiles. And He shined forth as the glory of Israel. Here we see Jesus shining to us as individuals and shining to us as people groups. He does this in His gospel work. Paul says, “[Christ] abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tm 1:10). So we see because of Christ. Without Him we are groping in the darkness, searching for something secure to grasp. With Him, we see salvation, life, immortality, and the revelation and glory of God. He is our source of light. He is the light of the world. With Him alone, we are safe and secure. –Pastor Rory
