A People Who Rage

Our feelings are fickle and cannot be trusted. The emotional ebbs and flows we experience often depend on our circumstances, our mental and physical condition, the status of our relationships, etc. The daily temptation to let our feelings lead our behavior and decision-making instead of truth is a constant battle. This is the problem Jesus encountered in Luke 4 when he made his teaching debut in the synagogue of Nazareth. His audience had nothing but good things to say about Jesus following his reading of Isaiah, but as soon as Jesus proceeded to teach and apply the text of Scripture, they became enraged. Jesus opened their eyes to the mission and heart of God, thereby confronting their selfish resentful hearts and providing an example for us to follow today. Let God’s Word rule your heart. Submit to the Spirit’s ministry to conform you more into Christ’s image. And renew your mind by taking captive every thought, which includes our feelings, and subjecting it to the will of Christ ( Rom 12:2; 2 Cor 10:5). –Pastor Nate
