A House Which Is Divided

God’s work in the world is often hard for us to accept. Because of pride, envy, and self-righteousness, we believe God should work through or in us only. When God changes people, His work is obvious. But because things make us uncomfortable, we dismiss it as work against God and deny His power. And if we dismiss the work of God in others or through others, we operate in disbelief. However, God’s power doesn’t work when and how we demand it. God is His own counselor, and His wisdom is infinite. He always does the best thing in the best way. Instead of rebuking God by denying His work, we do better by rejoicing in God’s power to save and transform. We should do this even when He displays that power in ways and in people that make us uncomfortable. Let’s avoid the Christian tendency to operate in turf wars that demand God work in and through us only. Instead, let’s praise Him that He is working His will and His way all over the world in ways and in people we can’t imagine. The Pharisees attributed Jesus’s work to demons. Let’s attribute obvious displays of God’s work to Him and give Him glory. –Pastor Rory
