God Sees

It has often been said that we live our true selves when we are alone. When no one is around, the protective facade comes down, and the fear of man dissipates. We feel free to indulge in certain desires or use words we would otherwise not say in the company of others. But why is that? Why do we live differently before people while ignoring the fact that God sees all? Amos 7–8:3 presents a series of visions that reveal both the power of God and the penetrating gaze of God. We are told that Amos sees locusts and fire poised to bring judgment. Then comes the vision of the plumb line, where God measures His people according to His perfect standard, exposing their crookedness and rebellion. Finally, the vision of the summer fruit indicates that Israel’s end has come near. Throughout these visions, one truth stands above the rest: God is not distant or unaware. He sees the true condition of His people and exercises His sovereign authority over nations and history. Nothing escapes His notice, and nothing can thwart His purposes. This truth is both sobering and comforting for me. It is sobering because we often live as though our attitudes, motives, and secret sins remain hidden. Yet the God who held a plumb line over Israel still sees every corner of our hearts. At the same time, it is deeply comforting to know that God sees our struggles, our prayers, and our sorrows. Just as He listened to Amos’s intercession, He remains attentive to the cries of His people. We can bring our burdens before Him with confidence, knowing that the Lord who rules all things also cares for His children. Today, Jesus is our greater Intercessor, continually pleading for His people before the Father. Because He sees us fully and loves us completely, we do not need to hide from God; we can run to Him. The God who sees all is also the God who saves through His Son, offering mercy, forgiveness, and lasting hope to all who come to Christ in faith. – Pastor Nate
