The Messiah’s Glorious Return, 2

posted in: Sunday Stuff 0

Being ready for the Lord’s return isn’t merely about watching the sky. It’s also about making the most of the time. Christians have often been guilty of acting like the world and ignoring the soon return of Christ such that we become enamored with things of this earth. Still others of us are so looking at the sky that we are ill-prepared to live an effective life on earth or we waste the time we’ve been given. Since we do not know the day or the hour, we must not only prepare for it to happen this moment, but we must also prepare for it to happen in the next generation. In other words, we can’t be so eager to enter the kingdom with our Lord that we miss the opportunities to serve Him here. An old and often criticized proverb says that some Christians are so heavenly minded that they are of no earthly good. Jesus’s parable of the virgins and talents in Matthew 25 affirms that this is indeed possible. When our heavenly mindedness motivates laziness on earth, we’re of no earthly or heavenly good, and the results of that are disastrous. In fact, it may give evidence to God that we don’t really believe in Him at all and we’ll find the door shut and our destiny with those weeping and gnashing teeth. May God strengthen us to work hard on earth with an eye on the sky always ready for the soon return of our King! – Pastor Rory Martin
